Share NOCER Productions' now-annual spookfest “Bloodlines” entered it's second year October 18th-19th at Old River Paintball. This year's installment, “The Inquisition” built on the foundation that “The Beginning” built last year. In “The Inquisition”, Werewolves and Vampires are no longer legendary creatures. To their prey the humans, they're all too real, and they're not happy about being dinnner. Set during the Spanish Inquisition, the Pope's minions, the Justicars are on a mission to hunt down and kill every vampire and werewolf they find. Old River's 65 acres became Europe during the Inquisition for this event, and ProCaps provided the event paint, Rec-Sport. During the Morning Briefing, NOCER Productions' Andy Graham ran down the rules for this game, as well as telling the story of the war between Vampires and Werewolves thus far. There were no tanks at this event, but LAW rockets could be used to take out buildings and walls, and as a fragmentation weapon against foot troops. Andy emphasized that AT NO TIME was a LAW to be shot directly at a player. Playing the human Justicars at this event were the reffing staff, Team Ghost Core. Captain Anthony Rivers explained that the Justicars would just be observing the war during the day, but they'd make their presence felt during the night portion of the game. He went on to exhort the opposing sides to play a fair and straight game, and noted that with teams like Doom Troopers, Orlando Panther Elite, Dixie Shots, Damage, Rabid Woodpeckers and the South Beach Pimps in attendance, it shouldn't be an issue. Next, Andy introduced the Generals for this game. Leading the Vampires was Doom Trooper Craig Grindle, with his wife Sue acting as his XO. For the Werewolves, Mike Skinner of the South Beach Pimps led the way, with Jamie Crawford of Team Damage acting as his XO. Both Generals set the tone for the game, especially when the werewolves' intel division, Team DFI handed over a severed vampire head to their leader as an offering of things to come. Game on was at high noon, and both teams took to the field. Both sides probed the field, looking for opposition, and firefights started popping up as the supernatural creatures ran into each other in the thick palmettos that make up a large portion of Old River Paintball's terrain. NOCER's Kristie Graham started calling out missions for both sides to complete, and the Intel teams DFI and Anger Management hit the field trying to figure out the puzzles laid out by Jason “My-T-Mouse” Hall, who wrote the intel side of the game. At some point during the game, both Generals were infected with a virus that would cause them to turn on their own and start killing indiscriminately if not healed. The virus was created by alchemist Mytic Von Mouselhan. Completing tasks that Mouselhan set out for the intel sections would gain them vials of blood to pour in a tube by the scoreboard, which in turn would float a key that would open the box containing the Medallion of Health and Wellness, which would heal their General and prevent them from turning on their own. While all this was going on, the warring sides fought back and forth all day, with the Vampires having an initial advantage in field position. For the first hour of the game, the Werewolves were limited to their base and the palmettos immediately around it. As more of their brethren came on field, the numbers started evening out and the Werewolves were able to push their way out onto the field. The South Beach Pimps took advantage of this opening to start making pushes on the Vampire base, which is their specialty. During the course of the game, the Vampire base was blown twice, and several major assaults on the base were repelled by the Vampires. Due to the location of the Werewolves' lair, it was difficult to assault the base, but players had to be careful working their way onto the field because the thick vegetation around the lair made for an ideal spot for a Vampire to lay down and pick players off without giving himself away.
For night play, the players wore glowing necklaces so they could see each other, but the Justicars, being played by refs Ghost Core did not. Normally the night is when creatures like Vampires and Werewolves are at their best, but the vision given to the Justicars to see the legendary creatures, even at night gave them an advantage. If a Justicar was able to sneak up and startle either Vampire or Werewolf, they were eliminated and their pelts put up on the Justicar's trophy rack. Night play went on until midnight, and while many of the legendary creatures fell prey to the Justicars, they were able to complete missions. At the end of night play, the score between the sides was 1330 points for the Werewolves, and 1120 for the Vampires. Morning play started at 9AM, and both sides hit the field again, with the Werewolves starting the morning off with an assault on the Vampires' base. The Vampires' Intel section solved the puzzle put forth by Mytic Von Mouselhan first, filling up their tube with blood and heading off to get the Medallion of Health and Wellness. Waiting for them was Mouselhan himself, and he wasn't pleased that the Vampires were coming for his Medallion. The Vampires used a Cloak of Invisibility to get around Mouselhan and complete their mission. Some time later, the Werewolves got their Medallion as well, and both sides were able to heal their generals of the affliction Mouselhan had put on them. For the intel side of the game, the Vampires won, besting the Werewolves 90 to 60 points. At noon, the Final Battle of “Bloodlines: The Inquisition” came to a head, again at The Pit. The Medallions had somehow managed to find their way into the hut there, and in order to once again become legendary creatures and not be seen by their human food, the opposing sides had to recover the medallions. At the starting horn, the Werewolves held back, taking advantage of the concealment offered by the palmettos near the hut and waited for the Vampires to come. The Vampires hit the objective hard, retrieving their medallion within the first few minutes of the final battle, then settled in to prevent the werewolves from getting their Medallion. Living up to their ferocious reputation, the Werewolves sent wave after wave of furry killing machines into the fray, finally taking control of the hut and getting their medallion so they didn't have to worry about their food coming after them. As the final horn sounded, players started coming off field and getting ready to hear the results of their weekend's labors and get in on the prize drawing donated by NOCER Productions' sponsors. Andy first explained how the weekend's efforts advanced the “Bloodlines” story. Since both sides were able to get their medallions during the final battle, the creatures were both again legendary. While both sides no longer had to worry about becoming some human's trophy, the Vampires came up on the short end of the scores, barely losing to the Werewolves 2200 points to the Vampires 1940 Points. With that, the Generals came up to make their awards for this game: For the Vampires, Craig Grindle. X.O. Sue Grindle Best Ref: Ghost Core (the entire team!) Most Valuable Team: Firecomm 1 Most Valuable Player: Sue Grindle Sportsmanship: Chewie from Black Berets Young Gun: Eric from Firecomm 1 Intel: Mike Tolnay, Anger Management For the Werewolves, Mike Skinner X.O.: Jamie Crawford Best Ref: Anthony Rivers, Team Ghost Core Most Valuable Team: Orlando Panther Elite Most Valuable Player: Candace Skinner Sportsmanship: John Navarro, South Beach Pimps Young Gun: Alexis Intel: Maverick from DFI After making their awards, the Generals stepped back and NOCER Productions' Andy Graham starting picking out numbers for the player prize package raffle, with prizes donated by 68Caliber.Com, Python Paintball, RAP4, Blackpoint Engineering, TheFordReport.Com, Save Phace Masks, Hard Corps Paintball, Gen-X Paintball, and Flurry Industries. NOCER Productions' “Bloodlines: The Inquistion”
At 5PM, the Generals got their mission cards for the dinner battle. The Werewolves were tasked with holding a small hut at “The Pit”, and the Vampires had to take it away from them. The Vampires got the hut initially, but werewolves emerging from the woods fought them off and won the dinner battle despite relentless pressure from the Vampires.
